Houston exploration company Petrohawk Energy, which has made a name for itself by finding natural gas in shale formations, announced another find today in the badlands of South Texas.
Petrohawk said the Eagle Ford Shale in La Salle County, which includes Cotulla and is about 90 miles southwest of San Antonio, was found after seismic mapping and other study. The company has leased more than 100,000 acres.
“This discovery folds perfectly into our portfolio of unconventional resource assets,” Dick Stoneburner, Petrohawk’s chief operating officer, said in a news release. “Petrohawk’s staff has extensive experience in the acquisition and development of horizontal plays as exhibited by our results in the Haynesville Shale and Fayetteville Shale plays. Leveraging that expertise to uncover new opportunities like the Eagle Ford Shale adds significantly to our playbook.”
The Haynesville Shale is a productive gas field in northern Louisiana and East Texas. The Fayetteville Shale is in northeastern Arkansas.
Petrohawk said an 11,300-foot discovery well is producing 9.1 million cubic feet of natural gas equivalent per day, and a second well is expected to perform better than the first.

Damn Hk I didn't want to get in till it came back down doesn't look like its going to come back down to $8
Let's say HK discovers Texas sized shales. What happens when the crude oil price go down?
Gas dilution, with more discoveries? I am sure other companies like CHK etc out there are also posting discoveries every 15 days.
by oil prices on the downward movement, refiners industry like FWLT benefits from it
.....
by oil prices on the downward movement, coal miners will loss their added values as producers of oil substitution
